Overview of the Middle Wing
The Middle Wing is often considered the final leg of the Mount Gunbad experience, featuring four bosses and one optional boss. The optional boss in this wing, Wight Lord Solithex, counts as a “Final” boss for the purposes of Guild Coin quests.
To begin, clear the enemies on the narrow, straight path. The first enemies can be strategically pulled to the range of your camp guards, who will assist in defeating them. Just before the path turns right, you can save time by running straight and dropping off the ledge to bypass a number of mobs. Once below, most groups hug the left wall to avoid the Hero Giants, but you can choose to engage these for a rare chance at a Purple Seed drop. As you pass the final mobs, the first boss awaits.
Boss 1: Redeye Big Oaf
The Redeye Big Oaf is a massive Giant with a few key mechanics. Overall, it is a relatively straightforward fight.
Key Mechanics:
- AoE Stomp (Knockback): The boss will stomp, launching the entire party into the air. To mitigate this, tank the boss to the right of its initial location, using the small Goblin hut floors as a makeshift roof to prevent the tank from being launched uncontrollably.
- All-Around Cleave: This boss cleaves in a full 360-degree radius. Melee DPS should ideally be Guarded by the tank to reduce incoming damage.
- Healer Positioning: Healers can choose to position themselves at max distance to avoid most of the damage pressure.
- Teleport Bug: Occasionally, the boss may bug out and vanish. This is often caused by the boss attempting to teleport to where it believes its target was launched. To fix this, the tank can simply move around, which should cause the Giant to reappear and re-engage.
- Loot: Gold bags from the Redeye Big Oaf have a chance to drop the Redeye Boots or Gloves.
Boss 2: Blaz Da’ Tamin Masta
As you enter the area before this boss, you will be introduced to the Spider Egg mechanic. It is crucial to understand that any damage, whether AoE or single-target, will cause these eggs to explode, spawning a swarm of Champion Spiders.
Blaz Da’ Tamin Masta is a dual-boss fight featuring Blaz, a small Goblin boss, and Velkyrix, a giant Spider.
Key Mechanics:
- Dual-Tanking: Groups can either solo tank both bosses together or have an off-tank/sturdy player kite Velkyrix away if the primary tank is struggling. Most groups tank the bosses with the tank’s back to one of the pillars.
- Focus Blaz First: Always prioritize killing Blaz first. If Velkyrix is defeated before Blaz, the Goblin will enrage, likely resulting in a party wipe.
- Spider Eggs and Adds: Velkyrix constantly spawns Spider Eggs. Your group must decide on a strategy:
- Single-Target Strategy: Focus on single-target damage to Blaz and avoid the eggs entirely.
- AoE Strategy: Embrace the adds. Go full AoE damage to kill both the bosses and the spawned Champion Spiders quickly.
- Tanking Adds: Regardless of the strategy, tanks must be prepared to use their Challenge ability to AoE taunt any spiders that aggro onto healers or DPS, especially if someone accidentally hits an egg.
- Enraged Velkyrix: Unlike the Wyvern boss in the Left Wing, Velkyrix is enraged after Blaz is killed. She will not leash and will chase the party. You must stop and defeat her before moving on to the next encounter.
- Loot: Blaz da Tamin Masta drops the Redeye Gloves or Boots.
Boss 3: Arathremia
On the way to this boss, be cautious of the Death Shadow Knights. These enemies are unusually potent, capable of stunning and dealing massive damage. Pulling two or more at once can easily lead to a wipe. Use crowd control (CC) and burn them down quickly.
Arathremia is a Wraith boss located up a ramp on your right.
Key Mechanics:
- Tank Positioning: Tanks should pull Arathremia to the left where she is first approached, with their back to the wall to prevent knockbacks from disrupting the fight.
- Adds and DPS: Arathremia spawns Champion adds as she takes damage. Higher DPS will cause adds to spawn faster, potentially making the fight more difficult for groups with a single tank. Solo tanks should consider Guarding their primary AoE DPS.
- Healer CC: The boss will frequently CC healers throughout the fight, often coinciding with add spawns. Healers should be prepared with emergency heals and morale abilities to sustain the group when one or both of them are disabled.
- Scavenging: Players with the Scavenging profession can loot the champion mobs for a chance at talisman fragments. All champion adds will despawn once Arathremia is defeated, so it’s recommended to scavenge them before the boss dies.
- Loot: Arathremia’s gold bags have a chance to drop the Redeye Gloves or Boots.
Optional Boss: Wight Lord Solithex
Wight Lord Solithex is a challenging but rewarding optional boss. He is the only boss that drops the Redeye Belt, which is necessary for completing the set bonus (but not the Conqueror Ward).
- Room Setup: The room is large, and most groups have healers and ranged DPS stand on the ledge behind where the boss is engaged. The tank and melee DPS fight in the center. Note the location of a totem in the far back of the room, near the NPC “Ghoullom,” as it will be crucial later.
- Loot: Wight Lord Solithex is counted as a “Final Boss” for Guild Coin quests and drops the Redeye Belt in gold bags.
Key Mechanics:
- Lifesteal: When the boss announces, “Give unto me that which sustains you!”, a faint purple puddle will appear on the floor. Players must immediately move out of this puddle to prevent the boss from draining their health and restoring his own.
- Skeleton Champions: At 70% HP, the boss summons four giant Skeleton Champions. The tank must use their AoE Challenge to pick these up, and DPS should use AoE to burn them down before continuing on the boss.
- Pillars: At 40% HP, the boss will spawn four broken pillars. These pillars constantly spawn skeletons and will quickly overrun the party if not dealt with. DPS must focus fire and destroy these pillars one at a time. The tank can use Challenge here to pick up any spawned adds.
- Soulstone Totem: At 20% HP, the boss will grow in size and glow red. His movement speed will be significantly reduced. At this point, the tank should kite the boss around the center of the room. All DPS must immediately move to the back of the room and destroy the glowing red Soulstone Totem.
- Final Phase: Once the totem is destroyed, the boss returns to his normal state, and the party can resume DPS until he is defeated.
After defeating Wight Lord Solithex, do not take the portal he spawns if you wish to continue to the final boss, Ard Ta Feed. Instead, exit the room through the entrance door.
Final Boss: Ard Ta Feed
Ard Ta Feed is a monstrously large Squig and the final boss of Mount Gunbad. His name is derived from a simple message left by goblins who were eaten after offering him other food.
Note: At the time of this guide’s writing, several of the boss’s mechanics may be bugged, simplifying the fight. However, the guide will cover the intended mechanics.
Pre-Fight Preparation: Before starting, assign two party members to the “Buttons” mechanic.
Key Mechanics:
- Buttons: Two assigned players must position themselves on either side of the large stone pillar in the room. The pillar will light up at 80%, 60%, 40%, and 20% HP. When the lights activate, both players must simultaneously click their respective buttons until a green laser hits the boss. This will pacify Ard Ta Feed and significantly reduce his damage output.
- Tank Positioning: The tank should position the boss with their back to the large stone pillar on either the left or right side. This maintains good line-of-sight with healers, who may be far away operating the buttons.
- Healing Mechanic: Ard Ta Feed’s healing is tied to the number of “snack squigs” that run near him. The more melee players near the boss, the more likely he is to heal. Most groups can simply out-DPS this healing, but if your group is struggling, consider having low-DPS players move out of melee range.
- Squig Storm (Bugged): A “Squig Storm” mechanic is supposed to chase a player and deal heavy damage. Currently, this mechanic may be bugged, allowing players to stand in it without worry.
- AoE Knockback: The boss will perform occasional AoE knockbacks. Tanks should be fine if positioned against the pillar, and other players should simply run back into position.
Once Ard Ta Feed is defeated, two party members will receive gold bags containing the Redeye Chestpiece, and your conquest of Mount Gunbad is complete. A portal will spawn to return you to the dungeon entrance, or you can use a room in the back to return directly to your capital city.
